While the film industry is in a crisis of inspiration, it is now the small screen, factory of homologation, to tell the contemporary reality. Advertising, in particular, is the starting point from which to start again in order to put interesting thoughts. The exhibition of english artist Katerina Jebb, Simulacrum and Hyperbole, until November the 2nd, at GloriaMariaGallery (Via Watt 32, Milan), presents 7 art-videos, 60-second commercials that advertise imaginary cosmetic products.
The British artist tells, through the misleading and discordant promotional language, about the representation of the human body in everyday life, the life styles that affect the culture of narcissism, which passes not only through fashion, but also through body-care, conservation, prevention, mocking the effects of standardized beauty with irreverent slogans, anything but comforting.
Katerina Jebb, which in the past has directed commercials for international brands, directs using simple technical instruments, and with the help of celebrities and actresses such as Tilda Swinton in Life Eraser, who proposes a cream that inhibits the story told by facial wrinkles; Kyle Minogue, In My Perfect Bottom, introduces the possibility to obtain butt-perfection. She also suggests the Body Beautiful insurance, for the most important “precious good”. Arielle Dombasle, falls to oblivion, after trying the transforming power of Trouble in Paradise powder… and then Kristin Scott Thomas, Isabelle Towsend, Betony Vernon and Florence Thomassin. With cruel irony reveals the mysticism attached to luxury goods consistently theatrical, impersonating as a victory the lost battle against aesthetic and moral decay. Dedicated to a contemporary audience, more and more hypnotized and passive.
Under the sky of Tuscany, with its hard blue sky and mild weather with clear air, not far from Castiglione della Pescaia, immersed in a nostalgic and romantic atmosphere, we find Andana, a 500-hectare estate inside a Natural Park, a five-star structure associated with The Leading Hotels of the World, international brand leader in luxury hotellerie.
Its name comes from a long driveway lined with cypresses and pines. Inside it, we find Tenuta La Badiola, built by Grand Duke Leopold II of Lorraine as the court summer residence.
Purchased in 2000 along with farm Acquagiusta by a group of founders, Alain Ducasse, a famous French chef; Carmen Moretti, owner of the Moretti Group in Franciacorta and Martino de Rosa. They have restored the ancient village by converting the main Villa into the Resort Andana and farms around into the new house Badiola Golf House, opened this year, overlooking the greens and the Mediterranean.
The Villa Medicea, the farm and the barn have been subject to redesign. Assigned to the famous study Mocchetti Partners, The Villa is composed of 9 rooms, while the horseshoe farm has 24 roooms all connected by a “jardin hiver“, made of iron and glass, which houses the reception and the lobby of the hotel. The 33 suites have a rustic and friendly atmosphere and are furnished in neoclassical style. The interior design combines the origin country style of the Medici residence with decorative and ornamental French style; the Florentine colors are used: bright beiges, tones of dust and earth, yellow ocher, bright orange, deep purple. In the rooms: fireplaces, televisions, whirlpools, safes, internet access, CD and DVD players, custom made fragrances, newspapers and magazines.
Within the estate there is also an exclusive SPA (thanks to its partnership with ESPA: a leading brand of wellness), with holistic treatments, the use of natural products with essential oils, plant extracts and sea salts, aromatherapy, thalassotherapy and phytotherapy . Designed by Ettore Mocchetti, director of AD Italy, it is developed on 600sqm, divided into four rooms, two baths and a heated pool at 37 ° to facilitate muscles relaxation. At guests’ disposal: 4 cabins one of which dedicated to couple treatments, fitness room and turkish bath. Special mousse cakes, teas, herbal infusions are associated to each treatment and act as a complement to them. It is certainly the only SPA in the world where desserts are the wellness session central part.
Andana not only has a golf court that extends itself over an area of 30.000mq but is also equipped with a tennis court, one for football, two outdoor pools, a playground for children, a heliport, a tuscan “trattoria” located in an old barn renovated into a contemporary inn, with tipycal Tuscan cuisine, awarded in 2007 with one prestigious Michelin star.
From the time of the Grand Duke, the farm has a wine and oil production going, started at the end of the drainage which is helped by the presence of a pure water source called “Acquagiusta”. In the western vineyard with white grapes, Acquadoro and Acquagiusta White are produced; in the eastearn vineyard instead, Acquagiusta Red, an elegant and vigorous wine.
An enchanted and nice place. The best time is definitely May, the month when fields glow of the green-gold fire of mid-height grain and when beaches are preparing to receive first swimmers. The local accent has sharp rural resonances . The landscape has great cultivated areas, softened by hills rich of Mediterranean vegetation and fragrant wellbeing.
